Zack Littell Struggles with Gopher Ball as Ratio Risks Mount

Zack Littell currently slots in as a back-end starter for the third-place Nationals (39-36), who are leaning heavily on him due to a depleted rotation with multiple starters on the injured list. Unfortunately, his recent form is highly concerning, as evidenced by a bloated 13.06 ERA and 2.26 WHIP over his last 6.2 innings. Recent news highlights a resurfacing home run issue, having surrendered three long balls over his last three frames.

While his 5.56 ERA on the season is a major disappointment, our models project him to settle closer to a 4.55 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 168.0 innings. However, his current 1.41 WHIP and diminished strikeout rate suggest these struggles are not easily dismissible. Fantasy managers should expect regression toward his career norms only if he corrects his sudden susceptibility to the long ball.

Having already taken a loss on June 17 against Kansas City, Littell has no remaining starts scheduled for the rest of this matchup period. Given his current vulnerability and lack of remaining weekly volume, he is an easy bench candidate for the weekend. Verdict: Sit.
