Edwin Uceta remains sidelined indefinitely as shoulder rehab stalls

Uceta has not appeared in a game this season due to a persistent right shoulder injury that has kept him on the 60-day injured list since March. The first-place Rays, who currently lead the AL East with a 56-38 record, recently shared discouraging news that Uceta has stopped throwing and is seeking further medical consultation. Given that he is not currently featured on the active roster, there is no immediate timeline for his return to the bullpen.

While our models initially projected Uceta for a solid season featuring a 3.38 ERA and over 50 strikeouts, those numbers are increasingly unlikely to materialize. He was a vital high-leverage arm in 2025, recording 21 holds and 10 wins, but this shoulder impingement has wiped out his 2026 campaign thus far. Fantasy managers who were hoping for a repeat of his elite 13.57 strikeout-per-nine rate from last season must now grapple with the reality that he may not contribute this year.

The Rays continue their season with a series against the Red Sox this weekend, but Uceta remains completely disconnected from the active roster. With no throwing program in place following his July setback, he provides zero fantasy value in any format for the foreseeable future. He can be safely left on the waiver wire until there is concrete evidence of a return to the mound. Sit.
