Casey Schmitt remains shut down following season-ending knee surgery

Schmitt has not played since late July after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus, keeping him on the 60-day injured list through the end of the year. The fourth-place Giants, who sit at 64-92 and are currently on a three-game losing skid, have leaned on Turner Hill in left field during Schmitt's absence. He has avoided structural ligament damage, but he will not return to the diamond until spring training.

Before landing on the injured list, Schmitt was piecing together an impressive breakout campaign by hitting .271 with a career-high 21 home runs across 98 games. That sudden power surge crushed our season projection of eight home runs, demonstrating that his expanded role and hard-contact improvements were legitimate strides forward rather than a brief fluke.

San Francisco hosts six games this week against the Twins and the division-leading Dodgers, crossing paths with ace-level arms like Tyler Glasnow and Tarik Skubal. With Schmitt officially sidelined and generating no fantasy production for the remainder of the regular season, he should remain parked on reserves or the waiver wire. Sit.
