Torres Sparks Tigers Offense with Post-IL Hot Streak

Since returning from a month-long stint on the injured list due to an oblique strain on June 2, Torres has been on fire. Over his last seven games, he is batting .379 with a .438 on-base percentage and one home run. His presence is a massive boost for the fifth-place Tigers (28-40), who have been hit hard by injuries, as he slides back into his role as the everyday starting second baseman.

While his current .379 mark over the past two weeks is bound for regression, his rest-of-season outlook remains highly encouraging. Our season models project Torres to settle in with a solid .259 batting average, 14 home runs, and a strong .361 on-base percentage over 560 at-bats. Coming off a 17-homer campaign last year, he possesses a stable baseline that makes this recent hot streak look like a return to his high-quality norm rather than a fluke.

Looking at the remainder of this weekly matchup, Torres faces Minnesota's Zebby Matthews (4.15 ERA) on Thursday before a three-game weekend road series against Cleveland. He will face Tanner Bibee (4.09 ERA), Joey Cantillo (4.84 ERA), and Gavin Williams (3.32 ERA). With several favorable pitching matchups on tap, especially against Cantillo's high 1.51 WHIP, Torres is in an excellent position to continue producing. Verdict: Start.
