Andres Gimenez | Fantasy Outlook

Andrés Giménez shows signs of life, but tough upcoming matchups make him a sit.

Giménez has shown signs of waking up, batting .286 over his last seven games, a welcome sight after a miserable .169 batting average over the last 30 days. He continues to serve as the Blue Jays' primary starting shortstop, helping the third-place club (33-36) stay within striking distance of a wild card spot.

While his recent slump raised alarms, our models project a rest-of-season recovery closer to a .242 average with 10 home runs and 12 steals. His speed output is significantly down from his 30-steal peak in Cleveland, meaning fantasy managers should temper expectations of elite category-saving speed.

With the week already underway, Toronto faces a tough three-game home stretch against the division-rival Yankees starting Friday. Giménez will face highly effective starters like Cam Schlittler (1.87 ERA) and Will Warren (3.39 ERA), making hits hard to come by. Keep him benched for now. Verdict: Sit.
