Bateman has hit the ground running in Toronto, slashing .333/.436/.378 with nine runs scored and two steals over his last 14 days. Firmly entrenched as the everyday starting center fielder for a 73-74 Blue Jays club hanging tough in the wild-card race, the rookie has brushed off previous hamstring tightness to reliably spark the top of the batting order.
Through his first 28 big-league games, Bateman's .327 batting average and .391 OBP showcase legitimate bat-to-ball skills and mature plate discipline. While his zero home runs confirm there is virtually no over-the-fence power, his table-setting profile is no fluke, making him a steady source of runs even when his batting average predictably regresses.
Toronto wraps up the week with a three-game weekend home set against Baltimore, kicking off with an exploitable matchup against Chris Bassitt and his 5.10 ERA and 1.63 WHIP. Subsequent matchups against Kyle Bradish and Trevor Rogers are slightly tougher, but Bateman's leadoff volume and contact floor make him an appealing play. Start.
