Kenley Jansen looks to stabilize his season as Detroit’s primary closer during a hot streak

Jansen has found his rhythm lately, recording a win and a save with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP over the last seven days. This surge in performance has coincided with a four-game win streak for the fourth-place Tigers, who currently hold a 42-50 record. While the bullpen has been thinned by injuries to arms like Will Vest, our models confirm Jansen remains the undisputed staff anchor in the ninth inning as he continues to add to his historic career save total.

Under the hood, Jansen’s recent form is a welcome sight after a rocky 14-day stretch where he posted a bloated 11.25 ERA. While his 5.45 ERA for the year is well above our season projection of 3.66, his 10.45 K/9 rate suggests that the veteran’s stuff is still elite. We expect his ratios to gravitate toward his career averages as his hits allowed and walk rates normalize over the second half of the season.
