Bryce Elder | Fantasy Outlook

Bryce Elder remains sidelined following knee surgery as the Braves head into the final stretch

Elder has not pitched in September after undergoing right knee surgery that landed him on the injured list. Prior to the procedure, he stumbled over his last two outings, posting a 6.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 11.1 frames. He remains out of commission while the first-place Braves, who are 92-64 and riding a three-game winning streak, prepare for the postseason without him in their starting rotation.

Across 26 starts this year, Elder was a dependable rotation piece, logging a 4.19 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 15 quality starts over 146.2 innings. Those marks beat our preseason projection of a 4.89 ERA, but his surgery brought an untimely halt to a solid season. With no clear timeline to pitch again before the regular season concludes, his fantasy year is effectively finished.

The Braves play out the week against Cincinnati and Miami, but our models project Elder for zero innings with no scheduled starts. With his knee surgery keeping him completely off the mound, there is no reason to retain him on active rosters. Sit.
