JR Ritchie's Hot Start Cools as He Awaits Next Rotation Opportunity
Ritchie made waves with a historic debut in late April, but the 22-year-old has cooled off, posting a 7.78 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over his last two starts in the last 30 days. He currently sits outside of the active rotation for the first-place Braves (42-20), who are riding a two-game win streak. With key starters like Chris Sale healthy, Ritchie is currently serving as a depth option rather than an active member of the five-man staff.
While his early-season flashes showed his massive potential, his career 5.00 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 25.2 major league innings highlight the typical command adjustments a young pitcher must make. Our models project him to compile around 90 strikeouts over the course of the season as he refines his six-pitch mix. Expect positive regression toward his dominant minor-league ratios once he stabilizes his walks and earns a permanent rotation spot.
Looking at the remaining schedule for the week of June 1st to June 7th, Ritchie is not lined up for a start, with veteran Chris Sale and Bryce Elder anchoring the upcoming matchups. With zero projected appearances for the week, he cannot be active in fantasy lineups. Ritchie is a safe sit for now but remains a high-priority hold in keeper and dynasty leagues.
