Drake Baldwin | Fantasy Outlook

First-time All-Star Drake Baldwin looks to snap out of a month-long slump

Baldwin heads into the latter half of July as a newly minted All-Star, firmly established as the everyday catcher for the first-place Braves (55-40). While he endured a difficult 30-day stretch where he hit just .161, he has shown signs of life lately by hitting .286 with four walks over his last four games. With the team currently riding a one-game win streak and Sean Murphy still sidelined on the 60-day injured list, Baldwin's role is entirely secure.

Under the hood, our models suggest Baldwin remains on track to reach his season projection of 25 home runs, as he has already tallied 15 long balls through 72 games. His current .258 batting average is a near-perfect match for his career baseline, and his elite power was evidenced by a 473-foot blast earlier this summer. The recent dip in production appears to be a standard mid-season regression rather than a fundamental change in his approach.

The Braves finish the week with a three-game home stand against the Rangers starting Friday. While the schedule is light following the break, Baldwin’s ability to draw walks and his 46 RBIs make him a cornerstone of the Atlanta offense.
