Zac Thornton's rookie surge continues as he provides rotation stability for the Mets

The rookie right-hander continues to impress, logging a 2.45 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over his last 14 days without issuing a single walk across 11 frames. Now slotted as the number two starter in the rotation for a fifth-place Mets club sitting at 63-77, Thornton has provided much-needed stability amid staff injuries to arms like Tylor Megill. His pinpoint control and newly incorporated curveball have kept opposing lineups off balance through five strong August starts.

Through his first eight career starts spanning 43.3 innings, Thornton holds a 3.12 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP that closely mirrors his recent form.
