Dynamic slugger sidelined by hand fracture as Pirates battle in division.

Cruz remains sidelined on the 10-day injured list with metacarpal fractures in his left hand, an injury expected to keep him out until mid-July. Before the setback, the center fielder was in a groove, slashing .258 with three home runs and four steals over his last 11 games. The 41-40 Pirates sit fourth in the NL Central and currently rely on Jake Mangum as the everyday center fielder in his absence.

Our data indicates Cruz was well on his way to a career-best campaign, as his 14 homers and 21 steals through 64 games were significantly outpacing our preseason models. His 1.013 OPS over his last 30 days of action suggests he was beginning to harness his massive raw power more consistently. While his high strikeout rate remains a ratio risk, the elite power-speed combination he offers is a cornerstone fantasy asset when he is active.

The Pirates finish the week with a home stand against Cincinnati, facing a rotation that includes the elite Chase Burns (2.00 ERA) and the more vulnerable Brady Singer (4.81 ERA). However, with Cruz officially on the shelf and not slated for a return for several weeks, he offers no utility for the current scoring period.
