Mitch Keller looks to stabilize his ratios following a difficult month on the mound

Keller has navigated a difficult stretch lately, surrendering a 6.00 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over his last 12 innings of work. The Pirates are currently 47-46 and sit in fourth place in the NL Central, looking to stay competitive as Keller anchors the number two spot in their starting rotation. He remains fully healthy and available, providing much-needed stability for a pitching staff that has avoided the significant injury bugs currently affecting the Pirates' position player core.

His current 5.38 ERA is more than a full run higher than our season projection of 4.24, suggesting he is a candidate for some positive regression toward his career baseline. While his 1.34 WHIP is manageable, his strikeout rate has dipped significantly from his 2023 peak, falling to 6.75 K/9 this season. Managers should expect his ratios to improve as his luck turns around, though he is currently more of a volume-based innings eater than a dominant strikeout force.

Keller is scheduled to take the mound today, July 9th, in a home matchup against Atlanta. He faces Bryce Elder, who carries a 4.11 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into the contest. Despite a tough opponent, our weekly projection anticipates a strong six-inning performance with a sub-3.00 ERA for this specific outing. Given his guaranteed volume and the high likelihood of his statistical correction beginning soon, he remains a viable option in most fantasy rotations. Start.
