Connelly Early | Fantasy Outlook

Connelly Early begins throwing program but remains sidelined for red-hot Red Sox

Early is currently on the 15-day injured list with left elbow inflammation, an injury that has sidelined him since late June. The good news is he recently started a throwing program, though he remains without a firm return date for a third-place Red Sox squad (50-48) that has won 13 consecutive games. While he performed exceptionally well before the injury, posting a 1.69 ERA over his last 16.0 innings, he currently holds no active role in the rotation.

Before hitting the shelf, the 24-year-old was showing flashes of high-end potential, carrying a 9.39 K/9 across 17 starts this season. Our models suggest his 3.54 ERA is largely sustainable, though his career 1.29 WHIP indicates he still needs to refine his command to avoid high-traffic innings. While his recent sub-2.00 ERA was likely due for regression toward our season projection of 3.72, his strikeout floor makes him a vital fantasy asset once he is cleared to return.

For the week ahead, Early will not factor into the rotation as he continues his throwing progression at 90 feet. Boston's schedule features six home games against Baltimore and Toronto, where healthy starters like Sonny Gray and Patrick Sandoval are slated to lead the staff. Since he is not yet facing live hitters or starting a formal rehab assignment, there is no immediate fantasy utility here. Continue to stash him in IL slots while he builds arm strength. Sit.
