Clayton Beeter maintains the closer role for Washington despite a recent spike in his ratios

Beeter is currently the primary closer for a Washington squad that sits at 48-49 and is looking to snap a three-game losing streak. While he has secured seven saves over the last 30 days, his form over the last week has been erratic, featuring limited innings and a significant rise in base runners allowed. Despite these recent hiccups and a crowded injury report for the Nationals' pitching staff, he remains the top option in the bullpen for save opportunities.

These recent struggles contrast with our season projection of a 3.86 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. While his current 4.07 ERA is slightly higher than desired, his strikeout rate of 11.48 per nine innings provides a strong foundation for fantasy managers. His high WHIP over the last month is a legitimate concern, but his underlying strikeout ability suggests he will eventually regress toward his more stable career averages as he continues to see high-leverage work.

The Nationals travel to Oakland for a three-game weekend series starting July 17th. Beeter is projected for three appearances this week with a chance to snag a save and nearly three strikeouts. Facing a rebuilding Athletics team is a favorable matchup for a closer looking to lower his ERA and find a rhythm.
