Peralta looks to steady the ship after a rocky stretch and mounting trade speculation

Peralta currently slots in as the staff anchor for a fifth-place Mets team that sits at 39-54 in the division. While he remains the primary starter in the rotation, his recent form has been highly volatile, evidenced by a bloated 7.78 ERA and 1.77 WHIP over his last 30 days. Recent news has highlighted his inefficiency and inability to pitch deep into games, which has only amplified trade deadline rumors as the club struggles to gain momentum in the standings.

The underlying numbers show a significant departure from his career baseline and our season projection. Peralta’s current 4.66 ERA and 1.46 WHIP are far departures from his elite 2.89 ERA performance last year and our model's expectation of a 3.54 ERA. While he continues to miss bats at a high rate with 98 strikeouts in 96.5 innings, his struggles with efficiency and allowing extra-base hits suggest he is currently more of a high-risk gamble than the reliable ace managers drafted.

Peralta serves as a two-start pitcher this week, having already delivered a short 4.2-inning outing against the Braves on July 6. His second turn comes Saturday at home against the Red Sox, who are currently riding a five-game win streak. Despite the difficulty he has had finishing six innings, his 12.86 K/9 over the last week provides enough strikeout upside to justify keeping him in active lineups during this heavy-volume week.
