Janson Junk provides stability for the Marlins rotation despite control hurdles

Janson Junk has been a productive find for Miami, delivering a 1.80 ERA over his last five innings with five strikeouts. He currently serves as the number five starter for a third-place Marlins team that holds a 52-45 record but is looking to snap a three-game losing skid. While the run prevention has been excellent lately, his most recent performance included four walks, emphasizing the need for better command to avoid high-traffic innings.

Under the hood, Junk's 1.40 WHIP over his last start suggests he is living dangerously, and our projection expects his ERA to migrate toward a 4.36 season mark. The velocity gains he achieved during the offseason have stabilized his floor compared to his rocky 2024 campaign, but his career 1.34 WHIP indicates he remains a significant ratio risk. Unless he can consistently limit free passes, his recent success may be a temporary peak rather than a permanent breakout.

Miami heads to Milwaukee this weekend for a three-game series against the first-place Brewers.
