Power surge interrupted by knee soreness makes Rooker a risky play

Brent Rooker has flashed power with two home runs over his last five games, though his average sits at a cold .211 mark over his last 30 days. The third-place Athletics (33-35) are fighting to stay competitive, but Rooker's status is up in the air due to recent knee soreness. He remains the primary designated hitter when active, but fantasy managers must monitor his daily health.

Rooker's current .200 batting average is well below our season projection of a .267 mark and his strong .262 finish last year. High strikeout rates continue to cap his overall output, but his 10 home runs in 48 games show the elite raw power is still intact. Expect positive regression toward his projected .504 slugging percentage once his knee is fully healthy.

Looking at the remainder of the week, the Athletics host three games against a weak Rockies pitching staff. This includes a highly favorable matchup on Saturday against Kyle Freeland, who carries a ballooned 7.81 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. However, because of his questionable status and risk of missed starts, the safest move is to bench him. Verdict: Sit.
