Jeffrey Springs struggles as the Athletics' staff anchor while the team suffers through a losing streak

Jeffrey Springs is currently in the midst of a difficult stretch, posting a bloated 13.17 ERA and 2.44 WHIP over his last 14 days. The Athletics currently occupy fourth place in the AL West with a 41-55 record and are struggling through a dismal nine-game losing streak. Despite these results, Springs continues to slot in as the number one starter in the rotation, a role that remains secure while rotation mates like Luis Severino are sidelined on the 60-day injured list.

His 2026 performance, featuring a 6.25 ERA, is a far cry from his past career success and our season projection of a 4.45 ERA. The primary underlying concern is a sudden lack of command, as he has issued 14 walks over his last 17.5 innings compared to just 16 strikeouts. While his track record suggests he can eventually return to being a ratio stabilizer, he needs to significantly reduce the free passes and home runs before he can be trusted in active fantasy lineups again.

The Athletics finish the week with a three-game home series against the Washington Nationals.
