Sugano's reliability is in jeopardy following a finger injury and significant recent ratio inflation

Sugano has struggled lately, posting a bloated 12.60 ERA over his last five innings of work. The veteran right-hander is currently questionable with a finger injury, adding uncertainty for the fifth-place Rockies, who sit at 34-53 and are looking to build on a recent win. He remains the number two starter in the rotation, though recent control issues suggest the physical ailment may be a limiting factor.

His current 5.16 ERA has drifted past our season projection of 4.86, driven by an inflated hit rate throughout June. Comparing this to his 4.83 ERA last season, Sugano is performing near his established baseline, but the move to Colorado has likely exacerbated his long-ball tendencies. Expect his ratios to remain volatile until our data shows he is fully healthy and pitching in more favorable environments.

The Rockies continue their homestand this week with remaining games against Miami and the Giants. Sugano is not scheduled for today's contest, and his availability for the weekend remains murky.
