Eugenio Suarez remains a power-dependent gamble during a prolonged contact slump

Suarez has struggled to find his rhythm lately, batting just .176 with 14 strikeouts over his last 10 games despite a clutch three-run homer on June 27. He remains the everyday third baseman for a Cincinnati squad that sits in fifth place in the NL Central with a 39-46 record and is currently mired in a four-game losing streak. His role is secure for now with Ke'Bryan Hayes still sidelined by a back injury, but the lack of consistent production is limiting the team's offensive ceiling.

Under the hood, his current .206 batting average and eight home runs are lagging significantly behind our season projection, which anticipated 22 homers and a .235 mark. While he is coming off a massive 52-homer campaign in 2025, his high strikeout volume this season suggests he is struggling with timing and plate discipline. Our data indicates that while the power could return in bunches, his floor is dangerously low in batting average leagues due to his frequent swings and misses.

The remainder of the week offers a difficult path for a turnaround, starting with a daunting matchup today against Milwaukee's Jacob Misiorowski, who dominates with a 1.45 ERA and 0.77 WHIP. While a weekend series against Baltimore provides a slightly better opportunity against Trevor Rogers and his 5.14 ERA, Suarez’s current form against elite pitching makes him too risky to rely on in active lineups.
