Casey Mize enters elite territory after a historic, dominant performance against the Yankees

Mize has been sensational since returning from a groin injury, posting a 1.36 ERA and a minuscule 0.61 WHIP over his last two outings. His recent masterpiece in the Bronx—where he became the first Tigers pitcher in franchise history to log 10 strikeouts and zero walks while allowing one hit or fewer—cemented his role as a rotation anchor for a Detroit squad that sits fourth in the AL Central with a 40-50 record. He is fully healthy and currently slots in as a vital piece of the team's starting five.

The underlying metrics suggest this breakout is more than just a hot streak, as Mize has increased his strikeout rate to 9.47 K/9 this season compared to his career average of 7.92. While his 2.76 ERA is significantly better than our 4.11 season projection, his elite 4.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio suggests he has mastered his command of the splitter.
