Jonah Tong | Fantasy Outlook

Jonah Tong remains a high-upside stash in Triple-A following his early June demotion

Tong hasn't appeared at the major league level recently, having been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse in early June after a brief stint in the bullpen. The fifth-place Mets, currently 40-57 and riding a three-game losing streak, are prioritizing development for their number two prospect while navigating a difficult season. While Tong flashed a high-90s heater during his May call-up, he is currently a depth option and does not occupy a spot on the active major league roster.

Before his demotion, Tong posted a 3.87 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 9.3 innings this year, which is a marked improvement over his rocky 2025 debut. Our models remain bullish on his long-term talent, projecting a 3.48 ERA and significant strikeout upside over the rest of the season. However, his career 1.81 WHIP in the big leagues suggests he must refine his command in the minors to avoid the high-traffic innings that have plagued his early appearances.

The Mets head into a weekend series against the Phillies, but with Christian Scott and Sean Manaea scheduled to start, Tong is not expected to rejoin the rotation this week. Our projection expects zero fantasy points from him as he continues to build stamina in Triple-A. Given the team's current standing and the presence of other healthy starters, he is a firm stash in dynasty formats but a non-factor in redraft leagues for now. Sit.
