Francisco Alvarez remains mired in a severe slump as power vanishes

Alvarez is struggling mightily at the plate, batting just .097 with 15 strikeouts over his last 14 days and managing only one home run across his past 30 games. Despite this prolonged cold stretch, he continues to see consistent playing time as the primary designated hitter for a fifth-place Mets club sitting at 61-76.

His season totals of 13 home runs and a .233 batting average sit close to our projected .236 mark, but his heavy swing-and-miss profile over the last month is alarming. Until he improves his timing and zone control, this current power drought is a legitimate performance slump rather than bad batted-ball luck.

New York lines up for six games this week, traveling to Tampa Bay before returning home to host San Francisco. Although matchups against Ian Seymour (4.40 ERA) and Freddy Peralta (5.15 ERA) offer rebound potential, difficult assignments against Shane McClanahan (3.17 ERA) and Logan Webb (3.78 ERA) make him too risky to trust. Sit.
