Zac Gallen struggles to find his rhythm as ratio risks mount in Arizona

Zac Gallen continues to search for his top-tier form, carrying a rough 5.87 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP over his last 30 days. Currently slotting in as the staff anchor for the third-place Diamondbacks (36-35), Gallen's season has been plagued by inconsistency following an early-season shoulder contusion. He remains the top option in Arizona's rotation, but his current form makes him tough to trust.

While his recent 14-day ERA of 6.15 is highly alarming, our models project him to improve rest-of-season toward a 4.14 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. This is a step back from his elite 2022-2023 form, as his current 5.85 ERA through 15 starts is heavily weighed down by a 1.59 WHIP and diminished strikeouts. Expect some regression to his career norms, but recognize his ceiling is capped.

Gallen is scheduled for a single start on June 20 against the Twins and Taj Bradley, who carries a 4.02 ERA.
