Zac Gallen | Fantasy Outlook

Gallen's severe struggles and ratio inflation make him a bench candidate despite two-start volume.

Gallen slots in as the staff anchor for the third-place Diamondbacks (34-33), but his recent form is highly concerning. Over his last 14 days, he has struggled mightily, posting a 7.75 ERA and a bloated 1.99 WHIP across three starts. Despite earlier shoulder contusion concerns in April, he is currently healthy but failing to provide the stability Arizona desperately needs.

While his current 5.97 ERA and 1.61 WHIP on the season are alarming, our models project some rest-of-season correction toward a more respectable 4.14 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. His strikeout rate of 6.11 K/9 is well below his career average of over 8.5 K/9, suggesting he is pitching to contact too often or still working through underlying mechanical issues.

This week represents a two-start stretch for Gallen; he already took a loss on June 9 against Miami and next faces Andrew Abbott (3.98 ERA) in Cincinnati on June 14. Given the hitter-friendly environment of Great American Ball Park and his ongoing struggles, fantasy managers should sit him for his remaining matchup. Verdict: Sit.
