Alex Bregman showing signs of life with improved plate discipline

Alex Bregman is starting to find his rhythm at the plate, batting .292 with a stellar .452 on-base percentage over his last seven games. He remains locked in as the everyday starter at third base for the third-place Cubs (39-36). While he has faced some scrutiny for leaving runners on base, his excellent plate discipline—drawing six walks against just four strikeouts this past week—is a highly encouraging sign.

Despite a sluggish stretch over the last month where he hit .243, our models project Bregman to rebound toward his career norms and finish with a solid .259 average and 20 home runs. Analysts have noted his struggles at Wrigley Field, where his pull-heavy flyball profile doesn't play as well, but his underlying contact skills suggest his power will eventually show up more consistently.

The Cubs finish their week at home with a three-game series against Toronto, starting Friday. He faces a mixed bag of matchups, including a tough test against Dylan Cease (2.71 ERA) but a highly favorable draw against Patrick Corbin (4.57 ERA). Because of his elite on-base skills and guaranteed playing time, he remains a solid option to start in all standard formats.
