Elite closer Josh Hader returns to full health, offering premier save and strikeout potential

After starting the season on the injured list with biceps tendinitis, Josh Hader has returned to cement his place as the undisputed closer for the Houston Astros. Slotting in as the primary bullpen anchor on the depth chart, the veteran left-hander remains one of the most dominant high-leverage arms in the game. Coming off a season where he posted a stellar 2.10 ERA and 28 saves, Hader looks fully recovered and prepared to carry a heavy workload at the back of Houston's relief core.

Our projection models expect Hader to deliver around 30 saves, 65 strikeouts, and a 3.09 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP over 64 innings of work. His elite strikeout rate—which historically sits well north of one per inning—remains his signature trait, giving fantasy managers a major category advantage in standard and holds leagues alike. The minor ratio inflation in our projection accounts for early-season caution, but Hader's active status and high-strikeout upside keep his floor incredibly high.

Drafted heavily in early rounds as a premium closer, Hader remains a safe, elite tier-one relief asset. While his early-season biceps injury required patience, he is now pitching without restrictions and should be locked into fantasy lineups as a weekly must-start. He offers stable ratios and elite save volume on a competitive team that will provide him with plenty of late-game leads.
