Rhett Lowder returns to the rotation for a high-risk assignment in Colorado

Lowder has successfully worked his way back from a mid-season injury, totaling seven innings and a 1.29 ERA over his last 14 days of action. He currently slots into the rotation for a fifth-place Reds squad that sits at 43-52 and is navigating the loss of Nick Lodolo to the injured list. While he is currently categorized as a primary depth arm and long reliever, the current health of the staff has elevated him back to a primary starting role.

The historic 1.30 ERA Lowder posted through his first eight starts has given way to regression, as his season marks now sit at a 5.10 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. His struggles are evident in his 5.86 ERA over the last 30 days, where he has struggled to limit traffic on the basepaths. Our models project a slightly better 4.44 ERA for the remainder of the season, but he must improve his command to reach those numbers and overcome his career 1.59 WHIP.
