Marte looks to break out of a deep slump as the Reds visit Colorado

Marte has struggled significantly to find his rhythm at the plate recently, batting just .091 over the last week and .188 over his past 20 games. Despite the lack of consistent contact, he remains the everyday starter in right field for a fifth-place Cincinnati squad that currently holds a 43-52 record and is looking to snap a two-game skid. He has flashed occasional power with three home runs over the last 30 days, but his high strikeout rate continues to limit his fantasy floor.

Looking under the hood, Marte’s current .195 season average is a far cry from the .249 mark suggested by our projection and his .260 career average from the previous season. While his six home runs in just 128 at-bats indicate his raw power is intact, his inability to put the ball in play has led to a major dip in production. Our models suggest he is due for positive regression toward his career norms, but he remains a volatile asset until he demonstrates better plate discipline.

The remaining schedule this week offers a massive opportunity for a turnaround as the Reds travel to hitter-friendly Coors Field for a three-game weekend set against the Rockies. While the thin air in Colorado is the ideal environment for a power hitter to find his stroke, the small three-game sample size limits his counting stat potential. Given his cold 14-day stretch where he hit just .179, it is best to leave him on the bench until the bat heats up. Sit.
