JJ Bleday looks to snap a cold spell as the Reds enter a busy seven-game week

Bleday has cooled off considerably after a historic May, batting just .111 over his last seven days and .135 over the last two weeks. Despite the slump, he remains the everyday starter in left field for a Cincinnati squad that sits in fifth place in the NL Central with a 39-43 record. While his power has dipped recently, his plate discipline remains an asset, evidenced by nine walks over his last 12 games as he continues to hit in the heart of the order.

While the recent .191 mark over the last month is discouraging, our models suggest his overall season breakout remains legitimate. His 13 home runs and .862 OPS through 54 games are far superior to his previous career norms, indicating that while his current slump is a significant regression from his 1.210 OPS start in May, he is still a high-upside asset. We expect his performance to stabilize toward his projected .241 average as his contact rates normalize.

The Reds have a high-volume seven-game schedule ahead, featuring four games in Milwaukee and three at home against Baltimore. Bleday faces a mixed bag of matchups, including favorable looks at high-ERA arms like Brandon Sproat (5.61 ERA) and Trevor Rogers (5.14 ERA), though he must navigate a difficult matchup against ace Jacob Misiorowski and his 1.45 ERA. Given the high game count and his secured lineup spot, the opportunity for a counting-stat rebound is too high to ignore. Start.
