Eduardo Valencia | Fantasy Outlook

Eduardo Valencia remains locked into a reserve catching role for Detroit

Valencia continues to see sparse playing time in a reserve role for the Tigers as the regular season enters its final stretch in late September. Opportunities have been few and far between, keeping him restricted to sporadic starts and occasional late-game defensive substitutions behind the dish. With playing time hard to come by, his fantasy footprint has been virtually nonexistent over the past few weeks.

Our long-term outlook on Valencia underscores the severe playing time ceiling that caps his fantasy utility. Even when he does find his name on the lineup card, our projections indicate modest contact ability and minimal power potential across limited plate appearances. As a result, his baseline production does not offer enough category upside to justify stashing him down the stretch.

Looking ahead to this week's slate, Detroit faces difficult rotation matchups where manager discretion will strongly favor their everyday regulars behind the plate. Valencia is likely in line for only a single spot start at best, offering virtually no counting-stat upside in standard leagues. Keep him firmly on the waiver wire this week. Sit.
