Eduardo Valencia's early power surge provides immediate fantasy appeal at catcher
Valencia continues an impressive rookie surge, batting .280 with two home runs and six RBIs over his last 14 days. Recalled amid several outfield injuries, he is functioning as Detroit's backup catcher and regular designated hitter for a fourth-place Tigers club sitting at 61-66.
Through his first 21 major-league games, he has exploded with a .356 batting average, six homers, and a 1.140 OPS. While natural regression will eventually cool this torrid pace due to swing-and-miss tendencies, his raw power makes this hot start legitimate enough to trust.
Detroit finishes the week with a three-game weekend series in Kansas City. Valencia gets favorable matchups against Noah Cameron and his 4.24 ERA before squaring off against Michael Wacha and Daniel Lynch IV, making him an excellent active option. Start.
