Anthony Kay struggles with bloated ratios ahead of a single-start road test in St. Louis

Kay has hit a brutal rough patch, posting a 10.84 ERA and 1.81 WHIP over his last two outings across the past 14 days. Despite the recent slump, the left-hander remains a fixture in the middle of the rotation for a first-place White Sox team looking to protect their AL Central lead. Chicago's thinned pitching depth ensures his rotation turn is secure, but his current form is testing fantasy managers' patience.

While his recent blowups are exaggerated, Kay's full-season 4.70 ERA and 1.41 WHIP sit right in line with our projection of a 4.60 ERA. With a modest 7.7 K/9 strikeout rate and a history of allowing baserunners, he lacks the swing-and-miss stuff to escape jams consistently. He should regress positively toward his mid-4.00s baseline, but his low strikeout ceiling leaves minimal room for error.

Kay lines up for a single start this Saturday on the road against St. Louis, where he will oppose Kyle Leahy. Our weekly projection models forecast an uninspiring 5.20 ERA and roughly four strikeouts over six frames. Given his alarming ratios over the past month and an unappealing road setting, he cannot be trusted in standard leagues. Sit.
