Jake Burger's power remains present despite a significant recent slide in batting average

Burger has cooled off significantly over the last 14 days, batting just .190 with 12 strikeouts and only two multi-hit efforts. Despite his individual slump, the second-place Rangers remain in the heat of the race at 46-46, sitting just a half-game back in the AL West. With core hitters Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford on the injured list, Burger is locked in as the everyday first baseman but must rediscover the power stroke that produced five home runs over the last 30 days.

The current cold spell is a dip from his season-long line of .244 with 15 home runs, which remains very close to our data's expectation of a .242 average. While his strikeout rate is high, his career metrics suggest this is a temporary valley rather than a permanent decline. His power remains legitimate, as evidenced by a 430-foot blast on July 5th, though he is currently heavily reliant on the long ball to provide fantasy value.

The Rangers conclude their home stand this week with a final game against the Angels before welcoming the Astros. Burger faces a manageable matchup today against Reid Detmers and his 4.31 ERA, but the weekend gets tougher against Hunter Brown and Peter Lambert, who both sport ERAs under 3.40. Given his 2-for-16 stretch over the last week and the lack of lineup protection with Seager sidelined, he is a risky play in standard formats. Sit.
