Edward Cabrera remains sidelined with hamstring strain as Cubs rotation carries on

Cabrera hasn't pitched since June 23 after being carted off the field and subsequently placed on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain. Before the injury, he was struggling with a 6.92 ERA over his last 30 days, though he still flashed his trademark strikeout ability with over 1.30 strikeouts per inning in that span. The second-place Cubs sit at 54-42 and are currently relying on their rotation depth to maintain their position in the playoff race while Cabrera rehabs.

The 2026 campaign has been a rollercoaster for the right-hander, as his current 5.27 ERA and 1.44 WHIP are significant departures from our season projection of a 4.04 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. His walk rate continues to be the primary hurdle to reaching his elite ceiling, but his career track record—including a strong 3.62 ERA last season—suggests he is a candidate for positive regression once he regains his health and mechanical consistency.

With his status remaining on the injured list, Cabrera will not factor into the Cubs' upcoming home series against the Twins. Chicago has scheduled Colin Rea, Matthew Boyd, and Shota Imanaga to handle the remaining games this week. Fantasy managers should keep Cabrera stashed on the IL for his high strikeout upside but must keep him out of active lineups until he begins a formal rehab assignment. Sit.
