Daniel Palencia remains sidelined as Cubs bullpen navigates his extended absence

Palencia has not seen game action in over 30 days while recovering from right elbow inflammation and a mild flexor strain. The second-place Cubs, currently 54-42, have been without the right-hander since mid-June, leaving him off the active roster and depth chart for the time being. With no recent games played, his focus remains entirely on his rehabilitation process.

Prior to the injury, Palencia posted a strong 2.90 ERA with 19 strikeouts across 15.5 innings, demonstrating the high-strikeout upside seen in his 2025 campaign where he secured 22 saves. While our data projected him for 25 saves this season, the extended absence makes that mark difficult to reach, though his career 11.03 K/9 remains a sustainable elite trait once he returns.

Chicago is scheduled for a three-game series against the Twins following the break, but Palencia will not be a factor in those games. Fantasy managers should monitor news for a potential rehab assignment, but for the upcoming week, he offers zero statistical floor. Keep him stashed in an IL spot if possible, but he is a non-factor for active lineups. Sit.
