Ben Brown sidelined by neck strain during dominant breakout season

Brown was exceptional before being sidelined, pitching to a 1.68 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over his last 30 days, including a quality start in his most recent 14-day window. However, he has not taken the mound in over a week after being placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain on June 24. He joins a crowded trainer's room for the second-place Cubs, who have managed to maintain a five-game win streak and a 49-38 record despite losing several key arms in the rotation.

His 1.89 ERA and 0.96 WHIP through 20 games are a massive leap from the 5.98 ERA he struggled with during the 2025 season. While our models originally projected a 3.91 ERA for the year, his elite strikeout-to-walk ratio over 66.2 innings indicates that his development into a high-end starter is legitimate rather than a fluke. Fantasy managers should expect some natural regression toward his career averages once he returns, but he remains a high-priority stash in all formats.

The Cubs finish out the week with a three-game home set against the Cardinals, missing opportunities to face vulnerable starters like Matthew Liberatore and his 5.49 ERA.
