Yoendrys Gomez | Fantasy Outlook

Yoendrys Gomez has emerged as the primary closing option for the Twins' bullpen

Gomez has been a stabilizing force for a third-place Minnesota squad that enters the week with a 48-49 record. Over his last 30 days, he has maintained a tidy 2.20 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP across 10 appearances, bringing his total to 11 saves on the year. Our data shows he has officially moved into the number one spot in the bullpen hierarchy, providing much-needed reliability while several other relievers are sidelined with injuries.

His current performance is significantly outpacing our preseason expectations, as he has already eclipsed our full-season projection of 10 saves. While his season ERA of 3.92 is slightly higher than his recent run, his command has sharpened since arriving from Tampa Bay. Given the current state of the Twins' relief corps and his career-best 1.41 WHIP, his emergence as a legitimate closer appears to be a sustainable trend rather than a mid-summer fluke.

The Twins head to Chicago for a three-game series starting Friday. The matchups are favorable, as the Cubs are rolling out Colin Rea and Matthew Boyd, both of whom carry ERAs at 4.50 or higher, which should lead to late-inning leads and save opportunities for Gomez. While facing Shota Imanaga on Sunday is a tougher assignment, Gomez is projected for a 2.25 ERA and nearly a full save over the weekend. Start.
