Top prospect Walker Jenkins steps into everyday center field role with immediate upside

Top prospect Walker Jenkins made an immediate impression following his late-August promotion, collecting two hits, a double, an RBI, and a stolen base across his first three MLB games. With Byron Buxton sidelined by a hip injury, the 21-year-old phenom has stepped right into everyday center field duties for a third-place Twins club that sits at 65-72.

While his .222 batting average over nine at-bats is an obvious small sample size, his mature plate approach and dynamic power-speed blend are well ahead of his years. After torching Triple-A pitching for much of August, our projections view him as an immediate everyday contributor capable of maintaining a strong on-base floor down the stretch.

Minnesota faces a six-game slate this week, hosting three games against Detroit before heading to Chicago to face the White Sox. Jenkins gets enticing matchups against vulnerable arms like Drew Anderson (4.22 ERA) and Anthony Kay (4.23 ERA), giving him prime run-producing opportunities despite tougher draws against Troy Melton and Sean Burke. Start.
