Spencer Torkelson's power remains elite, but contact issues plague his mid-season value

Torkelson continues to serve as the everyday first baseman for a fourth-place Tigers squad that currently sits at 44-52. While he has flashed significant power with two home runs over the last 14 days, his recent form is concerning, as he is batting just .147 with 14 strikeouts in his last nine appearances. The highlight-reel power displays are still frequent, but the swing-and-miss profile has become an increasing drag on his fantasy floor.

Under the hood, his current .208 season average sits below our projected .233 mark, confirming a high-variance approach that is prone to extreme cold stretches. With 16 home runs already on the books through 95 games, he is maintaining a pace consistent with our models and his previous 30-homer seasons. However, his 122 strikeouts this year align with his career trends, making him a three-true-outcome asset whose value depends entirely on clearing the fences.

The Tigers face a light three-game schedule this week on the road against the Los Angeles Angels. While the matchups against the Angels' pitching staff are not overly daunting, the limited volume of games and Torkelson's recent .067 average over the last seven days make him a risky play in most formats.
