Colt Keith's power surge offers hope despite recent batting average slump

Keith has shown flashes of significant power recently, including a three-homer game last month and three long balls over his last 14 days. The Detroit Tigers currently sit fourth in the AL Central with a 44-52 record and are looking for more consistency from their primary designated hitter. While he is healthy after a brief wrist scare in June, his .111 average over the last seven days shows he is still navigating a difficult stretch.

Despite the recent cold streak at the plate, Keith's season-long profile remains promising for a 24-year-old with three years of experience. His current .241 average is slightly below our projected .256 mark, suggesting that he is due for a rebound in luck and overall contact quality. With eight home runs already on the books, he is well on his way to challenging his career high of 13, making him a viable stash in deeper fantasy formats.

The Tigers have a light schedule ahead with just three games on the road against the Los Angeles Angels beginning Friday. Because of the limited volume and his recent struggles to reach base consistently—holding just a .200 on-base percentage over the last week—it is difficult to justify a start in most standard formats. Wait for the bat to heat back up and for a fuller weekly slate before returning him to active duty. Sit.
