Matt Shaw remains sidelined with wrist sprain as Cubs chase division lead

Shaw is currently on the 10-day injured list with a sprained left wrist, an injury that has kept him sidelined since late June. The second-place Cubs, who hold a 54-42 record and ride a two-game win streak, have adjusted their lineup to cover his absence in the outfield while he recovers. Before the injury, his form was inconsistent, as our data shows he managed just a .214 batting average over his final 10 games before hitting the shelf.

Looking at his rest-of-season outlook, Shaw has shown growth this year with a .246 average through 56 games, outperforming his 2025 career mark of .222. Our projection suggests a slight regression toward a .235 average, but his 12-stolen-base potential remains a viable asset for managers once he is healthy. Whether his recent power dip is a fluke depends entirely on his wrist recovery, as he will need that strength to maintain his projected slugging pace.
