Corbin Burnes | Fantasy Outlook

Corbin Burnes nearing September return following encouraging rehab progress

Burnes has yet to pitch in the majors this season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and an early summer setback, but he is closing in on a return. He recently touched 93 mph during a bridge camp outing and is targeting an early September activation for the second-place Diamondbacks (73-65). When he first joins the rotation, he will likely be capped at around three innings as he continues to build stamina at the big-league level.

When healthy, the veteran right-hander is a premier staff anchor, backed by a 2.70 ERA across 11 starts in 2025 and an elite career strikeout pedigree. Our projections expect him to provide a 3.29 ERA and 1.15 WHIP down the stretch. While strict pitch counts will limit his ability to earn quality starts initially, his swing-and-miss stuff and ratio support make him a difference-maker for the stretch run.

Arizona battles Philadelphia at home before heading to Houston this week, but Burnes is not scheduled to make an MLB start as he finishes his progression. Fantasy managers should keep him stashed on injured lists until the Diamondbacks officially activate him and ramp up his pitch count. Sit.
