Justin Steele remains sidelined on the injured list with starting ruled out for 2026

Steele has not appeared in a game this season as he continues his lengthy recovery from UCL surgery on the 60-day injured list. While the second-place Cubs (76-58) remain in the thick of the postseason race, team leadership confirmed that Steele is not expected to start games in 2026 following spring setbacks, leaving only a slim chance for late-season relief work.

Our preseason projections anticipated a 3.67 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP across 81 innings, banking on the high-end ability he showcased during his 16-win 2023 campaign. However, with rotation duties off the table for the rest of the season, any remaining rest-of-season fantasy value in redraft leagues has completely evaporated as the club prioritizes his 2027 readiness.

Chicago continues its home stand against Cincinnati this weekend with starters David Peterson and Shota Imanaga leading the rotation, while Steele remains without a timetable for major league action. Given the lack of starting opportunities down the stretch, he should not be rostered outside of deep dynasty formats. Sit.
