Miguel Vargas battles through thumb injury as White Sox offensive woes continue

Vargas has cooled off significantly at the plate, batting just .210 with a single home run over the last 14 days. Despite the recent slump and a nagging thumb sprain he is playing through, he remains the everyday starter at third base for a fifth-place White Sox club that currently sits at 31-60. His volume of at-bats remains secure, but the lack of recent production reflects the overall struggles of the Chicago lineup.

Comparing his recent stretch to our season projection of a .252 average and 18 home runs, it is clear the thumb issue may be sapping some of his contact ability. While his .235 average over the last month is closer to his career baseline, fantasy managers should expect some volatility in his power until he is fully healthy. He remains on pace for roughly 65 RBI, though the low-scoring environment in Chicago limits his counting stat ceiling.

The week ahead presents a difficult path with six games against divisional rivals Minnesota and Kansas City. Vargas faces a gauntlet of tough starters, including Pablo Lopez and his 3.45 ERA, followed by a weekend set against Seth Lugo and Cole Ragans, both of whom boast ERAs near 3.20. Given the combination of his injury and these challenging matchups, it is best to look elsewhere for production this week. Sit.
