Dustin May | Fantasy Outlook

Dustin May brings two-start volume paired with substantial ratio risk into the week

May has struggled to find consistency down the stretch, posting a 5.23 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over his last 30 days after lasting just 2.1 frames in his previous outing. The division-leading Brewers have kept him active in the starting rotation, but he has completed five innings just once across his last four starts following an August shoulder contusion. His recent pitch-efficiency woes continue to severely hamper his late-season value.

Our models project May for a 4.21 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, but his elevated 4.72 mark on the season reflects persistent command troubles and hard contact. While he retains solid strikeout ability at nearly a strikeout per inning, his recent downturn is not an anomaly. Without the stamina to work deep, his fantasy upside is strictly tied to strikeout accumulation.

May lines up as a two-start pitcher this week, traveling to face Zack Wheeler and the Phillies before hosting the Cardinals. Our projections anticipate 8.9 strikeouts over 8.1 innings, but his abbreviated starts completely undermine any win or quality start viability in a tough road matchup. Given the ratio vulnerability during fantasy finals, bench him. Sit.
