Max Fried | Fantasy Outlook

Max Fried remains sidelined with an elbow bruise, making him an easy weekly bench option.

The veteran left-hander has been out since mid-May with a left elbow bone bruise, leaving a temporary void in the rotation for the 38-26 Yankees. Fried remains on the 15-day injured list and did not pitch over the last 14 days as he continues his recovery program. Although he has participated in some pregame fielding drills, there is still no definitive timeline for his return to game action.

Prior to the injury, Fried was excellent, pitching to a 3.27 ERA and an elite 1.02 WHIP over 10 starts. Our models project him to finish the year with a stellar 3.26 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 182 innings once he returns, which aligns perfectly with his career 3.13 ERA from last season. Because follow-up imaging confirmed no structural ligament damage, fantasy managers should patiently hold this ratio stabilizer.

With the Yankees traveling to face Cleveland and Toronto this week, Fried is projected for zero innings and will not see the mound. He remains a mandatory hold in all formats but must be left out of active lineups until he begins a rehab assignment. Weekly Verdict: Sit.
