Braxton Ashcraft’s historic strikeout surge makes him a must-start two-turn option

Ashcraft has been sensational lately, posting a dominant 1.50 ERA with 17 strikeouts over his last 14 days. He recently made franchise history by becoming the first Pirates pitcher since 1901 to record multiple starts with at least 10 strikeouts and zero walks in a single season. The 42-42 Pirates currently sit in fourth place in the NL Central and have leaned heavily on Ashcraft as a mid-rotation anchor behind Paul Skenes and Mitch Keller.

While our season models projected a 3.89 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, Ashcraft is significantly outperforming those marks with a 3.13 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 94.8 innings. His elite 2.76 xERA suggests this breakout is sustainable, as his 10.16 K/9 rate and improved command are supported by the underlying metrics. Fantasy managers should treat his recent strikeout surge as a new baseline rather than an outlier.

Managers get a massive boost this week as Ashcraft is scheduled for two road starts. He faces Aaron Nola and the Phillies today before traveling to Washington to face Zack Littell on Saturday. Both opposing starters carry ERAs above 5.00, providing Ashcraft with highly favorable matchups to rack up strikeouts and quality starts. Start.
