Spencer Horwitz remains locked into everyday duties despite a deep second-half slump

Horwitz has endured a severe cold stretch at the dish, hitting just .205 with one RBI over his last 14 days and a mere .159 across his past 30 contests without hitting a single home run. Even with the prolonged slump and minimal counting stats, he continues to serve as the everyday starting first baseman for a fourth-place Pirates club that sits at 65-70.

The current power outage has cratered his fantasy utility, but his season-long .254 average and 10 home runs still align tightly with our full-season projection of a .256 mark. While his strong plate discipline suggests positive on-base regression is coming, his lack of extra-base punch severely limits his standard-league upside.

Pittsburgh closes out the week with a three-game weekend set in St. Louis. Horwitz should benefit from favorable matchups against Quinn Mathews (6.43 ERA) and Matthew Liberatore (5.54 ERA), with only Kyle Leahy (3.13 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) offering stiff resistance. Even with the exploitable pitching, his ongoing slump makes him difficult to trust in active lineups. Sit.
