Spencer Horwitz remains sidelined by a hamstring injury as the Pirates visit Cleveland

Horwitz has not seen the field in over three weeks, as he remains on the 10-day injured list with left hamstring discomfort dating back to late June. The fourth-place Pirates have managed to maintain a 50-47 record and a solid three-game winning streak without him, relying on Ryan O'Hearn to handle the everyday first base duties. His absence is noticeable for a lineup that benefited from his presence earlier this summer.

Before the injury, Horwitz was enjoying a breakout 2026 campaign, slashing .280/.392/.455 through 74 games, which significantly outpaced our preseason models. While his lack of elite power limits his ceiling in standard home run-focused leagues, his exceptional plate discipline and 40 walks indicate that his high on-base floor is a sustainable baseline for the rest of the season once he is medically cleared to return.

Pittsburgh faces a three-game series against the first-place Guardians this weekend, matching up with Gavin Williams, Joey Cantillo, and Tanner Bibee, all of whom carry ERAs under 4.00 and WHIPs near 1.15. Because Horwitz is still recovering and is not yet expected back for this upcoming road trip, he should remain on fantasy benches or tucked into an IL spot until the club provides a definitive return date.
