Peter Lambert rebounds with quality start as Astros push for AL West crown

Lambert bounced back in his last outing with a seven-inning quality start, striking out six without issuing a walk to trim his season ERA to 3.78. He slots in as a mid-rotation staple for the first-place Astros (74-72), providing crucial rotation stability amid a tight AL West race. Though an erratic August inflated his 30-day ERA to 6.59, his sharp command and bat-missing ability are trending back in the right direction.

After struggling with ERAs north of 5.50 during his tenure in Colorado, Lambert's career revival in Houston is backed by improved pitch sequencing and a career-best 9.1 K/9. While our models project slight regression toward a 4.00 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, his ability to regularly work deep into games proves this resurgence is no fluke.

Looking at the remainder of the week, Lambert makes a single start on Saturday on the road against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays. Facing Drew Rasmussen and a potent 87-win offense poses a stiff challenge, but our projection expects six solid innings with over five strikeouts. Start.
