Aaron Ashby remains a rare win-vulture asset despite recent ratio regression

Leading the majors with 12 wins despite pitching almost exclusively in relief, Ashby continues to be a unique statistical force for the first-place Brewers (59-37). While he has earned the nickname 'vulture' for his knack for securing victories, his recent form has been volatile, evidenced by an 8.78 ERA and 2.68 WHIP over his last 14 days of work. He remains the primary left-handed option in the bullpen for a Milwaukee club currently navigating rotation injuries to Brandon Woodruff and Kyle Harrison.

Looking under the hood, his current 1.61 season WHIP and 4.12 ERA highlight the risk associated with his high walk rate, as he has issued 29 free passes in just 50.3 innings this year. However, his 13.42 K/9 is elite and keeps him fantasy-relevant even when his ratios balloon. While his win pace has significantly exceeded our original projection of eight, his role in high-leverage situations for a winning ballclub makes him a consistent threat to pick up decisions, though some regression toward his 3.44 projected ERA is expected if he regains his command.

The week ahead features a three-game home stand against the Marlins beginning July 17.
